Only buy fireworks marked with BS7114

Don’t drink alcohol when setting off fireworks

Keep fireworks in a closed box or cover by spark proof material

Follow the instructions on each firework
- Cones, Roman candles, and Cakes/Barrages:
Usually inserted into sand, soft earth or tied to an upright stake. "The Golden Rule" is to not allow them to fall over.
- Set pieces ,and Wheels:
Attach securely to a post making sure wheels spin freely before lighting them.
- Rockets:
Must be fired from a tube or rack, placed at the rear of a display. Angle slightly away from spectators, making sure there are no overhead obstructions and ensure there is a safe area for the rocket to land. Always raise the rocket a few inches before firing to check it is free to rise.
Angled/Fanned Cakes:
Check cake is facing the correct way so is not angled over the spectators. This is usually marked with an arrow towards the spectators.

Light them at arms length using a portfire

Never put any part of your body over a firework

Stand well back

Never go back to a firework that has been lit, even if it hasn’t gone off as it could explode. End of night carefully soak in water for 24 hrs, before disposing of safely

Never put fireworks used or not onto a bonfire

Never put fireworks in your pocket or throw them

Always supervise children around fireworks

Light sparklers one at a time, wear gloves and put in bucket of water or sand when finished

Never give sparklers to a child under five

Keep Pets indoors

All the fireworks and firework kits we sell are tested rigorously and comply with British Standard BS7114
The firework display safety distances are as follows:
Category 2 Fireworks minimum 5 metres
Category 3 Fireworks minimum 25 metres
New Firework Legislation 2004
New Legislation, under the Fireworks Regulations Act 2004 state that is illegal to let off fireworks between 11pm and 7am except December 31st 1am, Chinese New Year 1am, Diwali 1am, November the 5th midnight.
Fireworks display planning advice
Fireworks do create loud bangs, so respect your neighbours, especially those with young children, the elderly and pets or livestock. It is polite to advise them of the date, time and duration in advance of your fireworks display. This will help make your fireworks event run smoothly.
